The Brooklyn Botanic invites visitors of Hanami Nights to join Sato Yamamoto and Jason Clay Lewis for four days of a fun hands-on Origami workshop. Guests will have a chance to transform simple sheets of paper into beautiful, inspiring, and elegant three-dimensional designs. Sato and Jason will happily guide, assist, and help develop your skills with the multiple steps needed for completion. You will be amazed at what you can do with a little practice, patience, and a piece of paper. Multiple skill levels will be offered, so anyone of any age can easily participate. For those wishing to challenge themselves with more advanced forms, we will be focusing on the heart, chickadee, butterfly, camellia, jumping frog, medal, and crane.
Sato Yamamoto is a Japanese bilingual artist inspired by culture and diversity. Born in Meguro, Tokyo – currently living in Westchester, New York. She facilitates workshops with Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Botanical Garden, Lenox Hill Neighborhood House, Center for Book Arts, Teachers and Writers Collaborative, New York Public Library, Manhattan Graphics Center, and Poster House. She serves grants panel at the New York State Council on the Arts (Visual Arts), and previously at the Brooklyn Arts Council (SUCASA Program, Non-Profit Local Grants).
Jason Clay Lewis is an artist and curator living in Westchester, New York. Originally coming from Oklahoma to New York on an apprenticeship with master printer Bill Goldston at Universal Limited Art Editions. He went on to become Jasper Johns personal studio assistant until founding and becoming the director of The Royal @ The Royal Society of American Art & The Royal List in Brooklyn, New York. His years of experience as an art professional working in and around the New York art scene has allowed him to exhibit extensively both in the United States and internationally.

Find a spot on Cherry Esplanade to enjoy the cherry blossoms, lit up for maximum effect, and savor the spring vibe with family and friends. Stroll in the Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden and along Cherry Walk, try your hand at origami and other Japanese crafts, view a curated display of bonsai, and enjoy live performances and specialty food and drinks. Bring a blanket and picnic under the cherry blossoms!
